Our Story

For years, Cecil and Cathy McGarrah would regularly travel up to Pawhuska from Tulsa to take a break and enjoy the beauty of small-town life for a day trip. When Ree Drummond opened The Pioneer Woman Mercantile in October of 2016, Pawhuska, Oklahoma became like a boom town and began exploding with businesses and tourists anxious to put their feet under a table in the newly-opened restaurant owned by Food Network’s favorite rancher’s wife! That got Cecil and Cathy to thinking they might just want to have their own weekend home and even offer a little hospitality to Pawhuska’s abundance of new visitors as well. So, not only did they build themselves a cottage, they built four more as vacation home rentals! The McGarrah’s hope is that their lodging guests will enjoy the remote peace and solace in northeastern Oklahoma’s little rural community of Pawhuska, which Cecil & Cathy now call home. You’re invited to come for a visit, shop, eat, explore the beautiful vistas, and enjoy the jaw-dropping sunsets along the edges of the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.

The McGarrah’s can’t wait to meet you when you do! The smiles are always free at The Cottages on the Praire!
